Frequently Asked Questions
How does the SERENGETI-IR ™ infra-red heater work?
It works much like the sun warms the earth. A significant amount of the energy the earth receives is from the sun. The sun directly heats the earth, and then the air is heated through convection and re-radiation. Infra-red energy is emitted from the heater through it's tubing and is absorbed by the floor, tools, and cars. This energy stays in the garage, unlike heated air, when the door is opened. The area quickly recovers its warmth once the door is closed. This recovery and high efficiency makes the SERENGETI-IR ™ infra-red heater very economical to run.
What are the tubes and reflectors made of?
The SERENGETI-IR ™ radiant tubes are made of corrosion resistant heat treated aluminized steel and are warrantied against internally created corrosion. The reflectors are made of polished mirror finish bright aluminum.
Does the SERENGETI-IR ™ qualify for an energy efficient product rebate?
Check with your local gas supplier to see if your installation will qualify, all companies are different. Some gas companies require you to replace an inefficient forced air, electric, or oil fired heaters to qualify for their rebate. Many state governments, local governments, and utilities do offer rebates for energy efficient purchases.
How long will it take to warm my garage?
Typically it will take a few hours initially, once the garage temperature is brought up to a comfortable level, the thermostat will cycle the system on and off much like your home furnace. The time depends greatly on how cold it is when your system is originally turned on, how large the garage is, and how well your garage is insulated. If the Serengeti-IR is installed before it gets cold it will maintain your comfort levels from the get go.
Can I install this myself?
This system must be installed by a
person or agency qualified in the installation of gas fired heating
equipment in accordance with local codes, laws, regulations and the
manufacturer's Installation Operation and Service manual. However
you can find the appropriate size, research the correct layout and
even purchase the SERENGETI-IR ™ for your garage. Even if you are
handy with tools, we strongly recommend you work with a qualified
contractor to insure a proper installation. Check with your local
building department for your permit requirements before you begin
your installation, it’s always better to do it right the first
time.
